80 Trainees Complete Course

Sixty-Eight trainees have completed a three-month course in food, soap and textile production at Duaya-Nkwanta in the Brong Ahafo Region, through the Skill Training and Entrepreneurial Programme (STEP), organized by the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Employment and Manpower Development.

The trainees, aged between 21 and 44 years, were among those unemployed who were registered about two years ago to be given special training. Sixty-five of them were females.

Ms Christiana Adutwumwaa Boateng, principal of Margaret Buechner Girls Vocational Institute commended the STEP but said the programme needed to be maintained with the necessary government support for the benefit of the teeming unemployed youth in the country. She therefore was happy that some of the beneficiaries had started their own business.

The participants expressed their appreciation to the government and appealed for financial assistance, the provision of facilities and equipment to enable them to set up their own businesses.
