Student tried for abduction and defilement

A student who abducted and defiled a 14-year-old girl at Konongo in the Asante Akim Central Municipality is standing trial at the Juaso Circuit Court.

Bernard Adu, 18, pleaded not guilty to two counts of abduction and defilement, and has been remanded into police custody to report to the court on a daily basis.

Police Detective Inspector Birikorang Peasah, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr. Fredrick Tetteh that the victim lives with her mother at Konongo Zongo where the accused person also resides.

The prosecution said, on April 14, at about 19:45 hours, the victim left home to attend to nature’s call but did not return.

The next day, after a fruitless search in the entire vicinity for her, the mother gave up, but she re-surfaced on April 17 and narrated how she was locked up by the accused person, who succeeded in defiling her after three days.

Inspector Peasah said the accused person was arrested after a formal complaint was lodged with the Police by the victim’s mother.

Police preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had gone to the accused person’s house that night for a social studies pamphlet when he locked the door immediately the victim entered.

He tried to have sex with the victim throughout the night, but the victim resisted all his efforts, according to the prosecutor.

The situation continued the subsequent nights until the accused person finally succeeded in having sex with the victim on the third night after which he released her.
