Farmer sentenced to five years imprisonment over theft

A farmer arrested over the theft of two suitcases of assorted clothing valued at about GHC850.00 has been sentenced to five years imprisonment in hard labour by the Juaso Circuit Court.

Daniel Amagyei was convicted after he pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing. He broke into the room of Ms. Anastasia Baiden, an official of the Ghana Education Service (GES), at Juaso in the Asante-Akim South District on March 23.

Police Inspector Anthony Godfred told the court, presided over by Mr. Frederick Tetteh that the victim, had left for work at about 0630 hours, when the convict struck.

He managed to escape with the stolen property but was arrested on May 7, following police investigations.

The prosecution said the stolen suitcases were recovered without some of their contents during a search conducted in his room.
