Staff of the Judicial Service have declared a sit down strike over unpaid outstanding allowances.
“We know the importance of the role we play in sustaining the judiciary. In spite of the importance of our role, we seem to be this year, unprecedentedly distressed,” Alex Nartey told an agitated crowd of the Judicial Service Association of Ghana (JUSAG), Tuesday.
“The strike is indefinite until government has paid all that is due us and we are satisfied,” he declared.
According to JUSAG members, several appeals to the government over their concerns have yielded no results.
The group served notice on Friday, May 15 it will embark on strike by close of day today if government fails to heed their demands.
Nartey, who charged his colleagues to be fearless in this protest, has asked all activities involving JUSAG members to come to a halt nationwide.
“Our security men are hereby directed to be at post nationwide even though you are the worst hit and the more disappointed, I believe because of your trust in me, you will comply with this directive.
“Come around and be at post, at every court premises nationwide and protect your properties. We are going home. When government calls us and tells us it has paid all allowances due us we will come back to work the following day,” he directed.
