Royal Gates of Bolgatanga urged to remain calm

Mr Asamannaba Bertrand, Secretary to one of the enskinned chiefs of the Bolgatanga Traditional Area, has advised the royal gates of the traditional area not to resort to any violent means in addressing the chieftaincy issue at stake.

Last week, whilst Mr Joseph Apakre, a 36-year old Manager of GHACEM in charge of Northern and Upper East Regions was enskinned as the Paramount Chief of the Bolgatnga Traditional Area by the Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Nayire Naa Bohugu Mahami, Mr Raymond Alafia Abilba, a lawyer, was also installed as the Paramount Chief of the area, to succeed his father, Naba Martin Adongo Abillba the third, who passed away on September 26, 2013.

Speaking to newsmen in Bolgatanga on Saturday after the out-dooring ceremony organized for Naba Joseph Apakre, the secretary said members of the two royal gates were families, and nothing should be done to spark off any conflict.

“They all belong to one family, and are just fighting for their birth rights,” he said.

He admonished members of the royal gates who felt aggrieved to resort to the courts to address the issue, instead of fomenting troubles.

The enskinned chief received a rousing welcome to his royal home.

Whilst others met him on the way to usher him home, others waited at the grounds of the out-dooring ceremony to receive him.

Mr Asamannaba commended those who contributed to the success of the event, and urged them to continue to support the new chief in his administration.

Based on earlier speculations that they could be violent, the police including the army mounted heavy guide at the place. However the event was organized successfully without any problem.

Mr Apakre was on Wednesday enskinned by the overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Nayire Naa Bohugu Mahami with the skin name, Naba Abeka Nongebuuri Maltenga, and arrived in the region on Saturday for his out-dooring.
