Dumsor vigil motivated by anger to “show the govt”

The #dumsormuststop vigil led by actress Yvonne Nelson is borne out of anger to “show the Government” and “create more problems” for the Government, Koku Anyidoho has said.

The former presidential spokesperson told Kweku Owusu Adjei Frimpong, host of Kasapa 102.3FM’s current affairs and political talk show Simi So on Monday that the celebrities who are leading the vigil are doing so out of spite for the NDC after one of their colleagues, Lydia Forson, got several rebuttals from NDC faithful after she wrote an open letter to the President.

In Mr Anyidoho’s view, Nelson is rallying her colleague celebrities to flood the vigil grounds as a sign of protest against President Mahama, just to avenge Ms Forson.

He believes the May 16 vigil is borne out of “anger” and nothing else.

Mr Anyidoho says the fact that the organisers have been struggling to secure a venue for the vigil buttresses his argument that it is all a knee jerk reaction meant to hit at the President.

Ghana has been enmeshed in a power crisis since 2012. Both the President and his Ministers have made several promises in the past toward ending the problem but to no avail.

Businesses and Industry are bearing the harshest brunt of the crisis. About 13,000 workers, according to labour unions, have lost their jobs so far due to the crisis. It is estimated that a total of 50,000 people will lose their jobs by the end of the year, if the situation is not fixed.

Power Minister Dr Kwabena Donkor has promised to resign by the end of the year if the problem is not fixed by that deadline.
