Workshop For Catholic Church Facilitator

A workshop for 40 Catholic Church functional literacy facilitators has opened at the Ankaful Leprosarium Training School in the Central Region with a call on religious bodies to help educate the less fortunate members of the society who have no access to formal education. The Development Co-ordinator of the Cape Coast Catholic Archdiocese, Mr.. D. P. York, who addressed participants, said the Church wants to take functional literacy to the door steps of the vulnerable groups in Ghana. He charged the facilitators to help transform the socio-economic lives of the rural people. The Regional Co-ordinator of the Non-Formal Education Division of the Ministry of Education, Mr.. Osei Piesie Anto, said it is not enough to give literacy to adult learners without helping them to apply the skills acquired to improve their living conditions. He commended the Catholic Church for complementing the government’s efforts to eradicate illiteracy in the country.
