Ghanaians urged to stop littering

The Okyenhemaa of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area Nana Adutwumwaa Dokuaa has called on Ghanaians to stop littering and help keep the cities and communities clean.

She complained about the filth at public places and appealed to the citizens of the country to help maintain a clean environment to help reduce infections.

Nana Dokuaa was addressing participants who took part in a clean-up exercise at Kyebi, organized as part of activities marking the 15th anniversary of her enstoolment as the Queen mother of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area.

She advised all Ghanaians to support and participate in the national sanitation day exercise and work as a team to promote the spirit of love, unity and tolerance.

Nana Dokuaa called on Ghanaians to exercise regularly and go for routine medical check ups to enhance their wellbeing.

Mrs Maria Donchebe, the Chairperson for Coalition of NGO`s in Water and Sanitation (CONIWAS) urged the public to desist from behaviours that promote poor environmental sanitation.

She called on Ghanaians not to throw away the communal values that had held the Ghanaian society together in the past and helped maintain the Ghanaian communities clean.

Mr Simon Peter Asirifi, the Municipal Chief Executive for East Akyem called for the revival of the communal spirit in the society.

Mr Emmanuel Akom, the Project Manager of A- Rocha, an NGO engaged in forest conservation, called for more education and sensitization on the importance of sanitation to help reduce the growing negative practices that leads to the creation of filth in the communities and in public places.
