Fugitive driver grabbed after two years

A driver, who has been on the run from justice for more than two years, after he crashed his truck into a passenger bus, leaving two people dead, has finally been caught by the police.

Francis Nyame, 36, jumped police enquiry bail after the December 18, 2012 incident and went into hiding at Aduamoa, near Kodie in the Afigya-Kwabre District.

He was tracked down to his hideout on April 17, and on Monday he was put before a Kumasi Circuit Court, presided over Mr John Ekow Mensah.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge of dangerous driving. Police Chief Inspector Frimpong Manso said the accused crashed his KIA Truck into the bus, which was carrying 31 passengers at Susanso, in Kumasi, after he veered off his lane.

He said one of those traveling on the bus was killed on the spot and another died later at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

Chief Inspector Frimpong Manso said many of the passengers in the bus also suffered broken bones and cuts and received treatment at the referral facility.
