Fire Service observes safety week

The Eastern Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has launched a fire safety week with a float through the principal streets in the Koforidua Municipality.

The Safety Unit of the command led the campaign with a one-on-one sensitization education which saw the fire officers, including the top officers in the region doing the fire safety “evangelisation”.

Other activities that would characterise the fire safety week celebration include a public exhibition of fire fighting equipment and a fire fighting drama.

Addressing the media after the exercise, Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Patrick K. Donkor, Regional Commander of the GNFS said fire prevention is the best way to fight needless fires and it is relatively cost effective since it enables the nation to save resources.

He explained that, the weeklong celebration was meant to heighten the sensitisation of the public on the need to play their roles in supporting the GNFS to prevent undesired fires.

ACFO Donkor therefore called on households to observe the basic fire safety measures so that they would not lose valuable assets.

He urged them to visit the fire service offices for education.
