An eight-member delegation from Uganda African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Governing Council are on a study tour to learn about Ghana’s APRM process.

The delegation led by Professor Josephine Ahikire, visited Gomoa West District Oversight Committee (DOC) members in the Central Region as part of the visit.

According to Prof Ahikire their visit to the area was to be abreast of the activities of the DOC in order to add value to what they have at home.

Mr Theophilus Aidoo Mensah, the District Chief Executive said since the district assembly aligned its self with the DOC it is able to tackle development programmes with commitment and zeal despite limited funding.

Dr Mark Nii Lamptey, District DOC Chairman took the delegation through activities the committee have carried in the area, which included weekly group discussions and lectures of staff of the assembly on key areas of the constitution, stakeholders meetings on APRM processes, enhancing constitutionalism through effective citizen participation for good governance with identifiable groups.

He said challenges they have with their work includes lack of skills and know-how of the DOC’s to engage civil society effectively, lack of sufficient engagement and consultation with local civil society groups that hampers the effective dissemination of information to the citizenry.
