3 Trafficked boys escape

Three trafficked boys working at Worotor in the Krachi West District of the Volta Region have escaped from their master due to the maltreatment meted out to them.

The three are Wisdom Osabutey, 11 years, from Ada in the Greater Accra Region; Enock Edu, 13, from Enchi in the Western Region; and Joshua Abiu, 15, from Senya Bereku in the Central Region.

In an interview with The Finder, Mr George Achibra Jnr, the Project Coordinator of Partners in Community Development Programme (PACODEP), a Kete Krachi-based NGO rescuing trafficked children, said the three boys were working in Worotor, a fishing community with their master but had to escape because of the pains they were going through.

He said when the boys arrived in Kete Krachi, they decided to go to Dambai and stay there for some time because they were afraid their master would come to Village of Life to take them back.

“According to the three boys, there are many trafficked children on the island so six of them decided to escape, but a day before their escape, three of them decided not to go so three of them escaped and were brought to our outfit by the District Director of Education, who met them at Dambai, and they are currently at the Village of Life owned by PACODEP,” he said.

Mr Achibrah Jnr revealed that one of the boys, Joshua Abiu, has been reintegrated with his parents at Senya Bereku but the other two are still in the village because they have not been able to trace their parents.

He noted that since the establishment of PACODEP, and in collaboration with the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Police Service, International Organisation for Migration, Geneva Global, Touch a life Foundation, among others, they have been able to rescue over 600 trafficked children.

He said there are still more trafficked children still working under inhumane conditions along the Volta Lake, but added that his outfit would do its best to rescue them.
