Korean Christian NGO offers free computer training

The Solid Africa Mission (SAM), a Korean Christian non-governmental organisation based at Tema has since 2000 to date, offered free training in computer courses to a total of 466 Ghanaians in the Tema Municipality.

The beneficiaries included, journalists, teachers, police personnel, lawyers, students, traders, health workers and employees of other establishments.

The NGO also embarked on an outreach programme to offer free medical treatment to people in rural areas and a number of communities like Kasoa, in the Central Region and Azagonorkope in the Ga District.

Mr Yang Gil Jin, Director of the Mission who announced this at the opening of a three-months computer-training course for 90 participants said as missionaries, the organisation aims at imparting knowledge to needy people to complement government efforts to maintain healthy lifestyles to enhance development.

Mr Jin said the most of the beneficiaries received treatment for malaria, stomach and respiratory problems.

In an address read for him, Mr Samuel Evans Ashong Narh, Tema Municipal Chief Executive noted that technological advancement required everyone to be computer literate for easy communication.

He said the Tema Municipal Assembly (TMA) was embarking on an Information Communication Technology (ICT) project and had contributed towards the opening of computer centres at the Tema Star Basic school and the Tema Secondary School (TEMASCO) as well as the Meridian Presbyterian Church with the hope to start another one at the Manhean Adjetey Ansah Junior Secondary School.
