Effective Public Health Education campaign in the Atwima District has started showing positive results as reported cases of preventable diseases take a downward trend.
Mrs Beatrice Appah, the District Director of Health Services, said the District recorded 8,669 cases of malaria in the first quarter of this year compared to 9,063 during the same period last year.
She said diarrhoea and hypertension cases also saw a significant decline in the review period.
During the first quarter of 2002 the reported cases of diarrhoea and hypertension were 1,499 and 586, respectively. These figures, however, fell to 964 for diarrhoea and 355 for hypertension for the same period in 2003.
Mrs Appah was addressing the first quarter performance review workshop of the District Health Management Team (DHMT) at Nkawie.
She attributed the success story of the District to the good health management control system, disease prevention measures and health promotion activities of the DHMT.
Mrs Appah said there should not be any room for complacency and called for dedication and commitment particularly from health workers to improve service delivery.
