GPRTU executives cautioned against partisan politics

Mr. Kwame Nkrumah, Chairman of the Central Regional branch of the Ghana Private Transport Union (GPRTU), has urged the various branch executives in the region not to allow partisan politics to divide them.

“Let us see ourselves as one people to be to control our members to adhere to road traffic rules and regulations to bring sanity into the transport business, and on our roads”.

Mr. Nkrumah made the call at a confirmation ceremony for executives of 15 branches of the Union operating in Kasoa.

The Regional Chairman said the executives inducted into office would steer the affairs of their branch unions for four years as stipulated by the constitution of the Union.

He urged them not to lord their positions on their members but rather be listening executives who would work to promote their businesses.

He urged them to periodically educate their members on the union laws and road safety regulations to help them to comport themselves on the road in order to prevent accidents.

He advised them to always dress nicely, respect people who board their vehicles for the passengers to reciprocate the gesture.

Mr. Ofori Kwansah, Central Regional Labour Officer, swearing the executives into office asked them to always honour their tax obligations to avoid been found wanting, and to also let transparency and accountability be their guiding principles, in order to sustain their unions.

Dr. Nuhu Adams, Awutu-Senya East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who graced the occasion commended them for a peaceful confirmation ceremony, and also for the expansion of their operations in the area, which he said had created jobs for most of the youth.

He assured them of the Assembly’s readiness to support them.

The MCE disclosed that work on the Interchange in the area would soon commence, and appealed to them to co-operate with his office and the contractor to execute the job to ensure the free movement of goods and services.
