Peace Corps volunteers urged to touch lives

The United States Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Gene Allan Cretz, has tasked the 29 freshly-sworn-in Peace Corps volunteers in Ghana, to make a positive impact on the lives of people whose community they would be helping to transform.

He reminded them that they had been provided with extraordinary values and skills in Agriculture, Education, Culture and other fields that should propel them to serve as grassroots ambassadors and help change lives in diverse ways.

Ambassador Cretz, was addressing the volunteers at the swearing-in ceremony at Anyinasin in the Eastern Region.

He challenged the volunteers to make peace in their assigned communities and asked them to cherish the Peace Corps Organization’s values.

Ms Carla Ellis, the Country Director of Peace Corps, thanked the volunteers for not taking the opportunity given to them for granted but showing dignity and willingness over the last three months.

Madam Grace Sebugah, the Training Manager, said the 29 volunteers had had three months intensive training in language study, health, AIDS, malaria, sanitation, cultural training and other fields that had prepared them to take any task wherever they would be sent to.

Mr Emmanuel Kwame Blemano, the Executive Officer of the East Akim Municipal Assembly, who spoke on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), commended the volunteers for their service to rural communities and urged them to remember their role as models for youths in their serving communities.

The volunteers comprise 25 females and four males who would be working in rural communities across the country for three months.
