Court remands spiritualist for vehicle theft

The Tarkwa Circuit Court on Wednesday remanded Ali Mohammed Ali, a 48 year old spiritualist into prison custody for stealing an unlicensed Honda 4×4 vehicle valued GH¢350, 000.00 belonging to Kwadwo Asare, a small scale miner at Wasa Adiembra near Wasa Akropong.

The accused, who resides in Tamale, in the Northern Region, pleaded guilty and will re-appear on April 20.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court, presided by Mr. Justice Obeng Asante that, about two weeks ago, the complainant saw Ali on a television advertising that, he has solutions to spiritual problems.

He said based on that, the complainant contacted the accused through his personal mobile phone and he promised to visit the accused in Wasa Adiembra.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said on April 8, this year, Ali travelled to Adiembra and went to the complainant’s small scale mining site, picked up some stones from the site and promised to assist the complainant spiritually.

He said Ali gave four pieces of metals to the complainant and claimed the metals will turn into gold later.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said, at about 2200 hours on April 10, Ali asked the complainant to release his unlicensed Honda 4×4 vehicle to him, to enable him to perform his errands within the Wasa Akropong township.

The Prosecutor said immediately the complainant gave the vehicle to the accused, he bolted from Wasa Akropong without the consent of the complainant and passed through Kumasi and headed towards Tamale.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said the complainant reported the matter to the Wasa Akropong police and Ali was later arrested together with the vehicle at Kumasi.

He said in his caution statement to the Police that, the accused admitted the offence and after thorough investigation was charged with the offense.
