Contractors must use mobilisation funds voted for them by the Government for their intended purposes to ensure that they deliver good quality work on schedule.
Speaking to the GNA at one of his project sites at Paga in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region, Mr Fataau Mohammed Maiga, the Managing Director of Fataau Mohammed Maiga Company Limited, said the misapplication of mobilisation funds later undermines the progress and the quality of work.
“This practice often leads to the delay in the execution of work and shoddy works,” he noted. “The situation is eroding the credibility of many contractors and has given the profession a bad name.”
Mobilisation funds are the initial funds released to Contractors by the awarding body after they have won the bids to enable them move to the project site with their equipment to begin.
Whilst commending some of his colleagues for living up to expectation, Mr Maiga impressed upon those who could not deliver to brace up, saying, “It pays very well to execute good jobs.”
Using himself as an example, Mr Maiga who is a Building and Road contractor, said his firm started operating in 1988 and had since been winning a lot of contracts because of his sterling credibility.
The Multi-purpose District Education Block at Paga in the Kassena –Nankana West District of Upper East Region, is one of his projects, while he was recently selected as one of the contractors to build Pack Houses and Warehouses for the Northern Rural Growth Programme (NRGP).
The facilities are for the storage of perishable vegetable and fruits.
