NDC To Demonstrate In NPP Stronghold

The NDC intends to embark on a demonstration in Kumasi, the stronghold of the NPP in an apparent show of force on May 29, 2003. The decision to extend the ”March for survival” to the Ashanti Regional capital was arrived at after a marathon meeting at the Ridge residence of Daniel Ohene Agyekum, a member of the National Executive Committee of the NDC on May 10, 2003.

The meeting was at the instance of the NDC flagbearer, Prof John Atta Mills who led the Accra version of the ”March for Survival”. The Kumasi demonstration has been largely occasioned by the success of the one staged in Accra, and the need to shore up the flagging fortunes of the party in the region.

The NDC also alleges that the people are smarting under the biting economic policies and hardships created by the NPP. Corruption and fraudulent deals by government officials, the Dagbon crisis, the Quality Grain trial and judgement, according to them are issues that need to be highlighted.

To make it a success, every constituency is to organize at least 300 people for subsequent transportation to Kumasi for the big demonstration. They are 33 constituencies in the Ashanti region alone.
