Muslim leaders urged to promote good sanitation practice

The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) has appealed to the leadership of the Muslim Community in Tema Community One to encourage residents to observe good sanitation practices.

Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, who made the appeal, said there was the urgent need for the local leadership to educate residents on the benefits of observing good sanitation, environmental and hygienic practices.

Mr Odamtten made the appeal when he, with other officials of the TMA, met the Muslim leaders and tribal heads in Community One to deliberate on developmental issues in the area.

He encouraged the leaders to also participate in the monthly National Sanitation Exercise to serve as an example to the community.

He emphasised that all stakeholders must work together to help rid the community of filth to ensure good health for the people.

The MCE assured the leadership of his outfit’s plans to provide a number of educational infrastructure, especially the Industry City Basic Schools, and other development projects, in the Metropolis to ensure high quality of life.

The Muslim leaders on the other hand, raised concerns over activities of game centres in the area and asked the TMA to intervene.

According to them, the activities of the centres had led to truancy among some of the children as they preferred being at those places to the classroom.

They also called for support for brilliant but needy children in the community.
