Mahama’s NDC has no energy plan – Dr. Mahama

A former presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC) Dr Edward Mahama has taken a swipe at the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the poor handling of the worsening energy crisis.

According to Mahama, who has tried four times to become president, what Ghana is going through today, where domestic consumers have to endure 24 hours blackout and 12 hours of light is a clear evidence that managing the crisis is beyond the government.

“If they have a national goal for energy from 1992 [NDC 1 and 2] we wouldn’t be in this situation,” the medical practitioner told Morning Starr Monday.

Asked by host Kafui Dey if the NDC has failed Ghanaians, Dr Mahama opined: “The evidence is there for everybody to see.”

He said governments including the New Patriotic Party’s era under John Kufuor have let Ghanaians down when it comes to managing the electricity, water and road situations in the oil-producing nation.

Dr Mahama called for a proactive effort in developing Ghana.

Ghana is currently grappling with electricity supply to domestic consumers and industries due to a 450 Megawatts deficit in the national grid. Low water level at the Akosombo Dam and intermittent supply of gas from Nigeria to power thermal plants in the country have contributed immensely to the irksome situation over the past three years.

The John Mahama-led administration has promised to fix the erratic power supply which has led to job cuts and loss of lives by the end of 2015.
