The excitement that has greeted the recent parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the country seems to be growing by the day, as a member of NPP USA, Nashville-Tennessee Chapter, Kofi Afful-Turkson on Thursday picked nomination forms to contest in the upcoming primaries in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam (AEE) constituency of the Central Region.
Mr Afful-Turkson intends to represent the people in Parliament to help promote the socio-economic development of the country.
The aspirant, who stormed the party’s office at 4:30 pm to pick his nomination forms, was accompanied by hundreds of polling stations executives, former constituency chairman of the party, Appea-Mensah and some NPP members from USA who wore T-shirts with his portrait.
Presenting the forms, the Constituency Secretary of the party, Noah Osei Asenso commended him for contesting in the primary at a time when citizens were facing hardship.
Mr Asenso charged the aspiring candidate to embark on a clean campaign to enable the losers support the party in the 2016 general elections.
He added that the NPP gave the Ajumako seat to the Deputy Minister of Finance, Ato Forson on credit and would do everything possible to recapture it in the 2016 elections.
Mr Afful-Turkson, in an interview, said he cannot continue to sit on the fence for the current Mahama administration to mismanage the country’s economy.
He therefore appealed to delegates to give him the nod.
“The people whose mandate I am seeking deserve better representation and an advocate who represents the interest of the entire community,” he added.
Confirming his membership to DAILY GUIDE, the Chairman of Tennessee NPP, John Okai-Tetteh, averred that Kofi Afful-Turkson has been an active card-bearing member of the party since 2001 and was the party’s youth organizer in the state of Tennessee.
Mr Okai-Tetteh pledged his support, as well as that of the party in the US state to the aspirant.
Mr Afful-Turkson, a native of Ajumako, was born on the June 7, 1974 to Kwesi Afful-Turkson, a retired educationist from Gomoa Tarkwa, and Mary Simmons-Turkson, a retired primary school teacher from the Royal Asona family in Ajumako.
Kofi Afful-Turkson had his primary education in Oyo State in Nigeria, and continued his secondary education at Ghana National College in Cape Coast where he obtained both the O and A level certificates respectively.
Afful-Turkson, after his National Service at Enyan Apaa in the constituency, was admitted to University of Ghana to undertake his undergraduate programme.
He also holds a Masters Degree in Education Policy and post-graduate diploma from Belmont University and University of Nebraska- Lincoln respectively.
