Ghana Plunged Into Darkness For 30 Minutes

The entire country was this evening plunged into darkness for almost half an hour without any warning from the power generating and distributing companies. The power outage which occurred around 5.45 pm affected the whole of Accra, Kumasi, Ho, Akosombo, Koforidua, Tamale and the rest of the country.
Officials at the ECG control room told Joy FM that power supply from the VRA transmission sites had been disconnected. When Joy FM contacted the VRA control room, officials referred the enquiries to the acting Chief Executive, Jabesh Amissah- Arthur.
Sources however confirmed to JOY FM that the power outage was triggered by the workers of VRA to make good their threat to sabotage the company’s operations if the Chief Executive, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey continues to remain at post.
Dr. Wereko Brobbey on Wednesday handed over the day- to-day administration of the company to his deputy to allow for an enquiry into his management following allegations by the workers.
But the workers have rejected Dr. Wereko-Brobbey’s decision to step aside instead of an outright resignation or dismissal. Meanwhile the public relations manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana, Mrs Gloria Dua Sakyi has apologised for the unannounced power outage. She confirmed that power supply had been curtailed from the VRA transmission sites.
