Police given 10 days to produce Tepa cell breakers

Police in Tepa in the Ahafo Ano North District of the Ashanti Region have been given 10 days within which to find the two suspected criminals who broke cell on Tuesday.

The two – Ernest Owusu Afram and Shadrack Nyame – broke cell while police were on duty.

Owusu Afram, 26, had defrauded 19 people of almost GH¢20,000 after promising them admission to the Tepa Nursing School while Nyame is said to have been involved in several thefts in the District.

Speaking to TV3’s William Evans Nkum, Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service Mohammed Tanko said the officers on duty have been charged to produce the escapees within ten days.

The public, media and other police officers have also been asked to help in rearresting the two.

He said because the escapees are natives and known in Tepa, residents have been prevailed upon to provide pictures of them to aid the police rearrest them.

This jailbreak comes a few weeks after a similar incident in Denu in the Volta Region, where seven prisoners escaped with some weapons.

Three have so far been rearrested.

Meanwhile, Parliament is set to glean answers from the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan, over the situation.
