Police receive strong public support in crime fight

Efforts at helping to significantly bring down the crime rate in Kumasi, the nation’s second largest city, has received additional boost and support, with the opening of six more Police Posts in the city.

These are sited at Adiebeba, Dakwadwom, Daban, Kaase, Atinga-Junction and the Oasis-of-Love Junction, and were built by residents in these communities, using their own resources.

The goal is to help maintain strong presence and visibility in these areas, where crimes had been rampant.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Commander, expressed satisfaction with the strong public support for the fight against crime.

He said it was refreshing that the people were increasingly accepting to share the responsibility of ensuring that there was law and order in society.

He reiterated the determination of the Police to go after law breakers, adding that, officers would be stationed at the new Police Posts to provide 24-hour security services.

DCOP Boakye again asked the people to be bold and volunteer useful leads to the Police to arrest miscreants living among them.

He saluted the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Dr. Richard Anane, the chiefs and people, for working together to make these projects a dream come true.

Mr. Abraham Boadi, a former assembly member, said apart from the provision of structures, they had also made available 10 crash barriers and 12 motorbikes for the smooth operation of the Police.

Mr Boadi said in addition is a Tigo customized phone line on which the people could reach the police during any emergency.
