Ghana’s EC ‘Strong Room’ must be demystified – Kwabena Agyepong

The General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Mr. Kwabena Agyapong, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana to emulate the Independent National Electoral Commission of Nigeria.

He said the country needs to have a National Election Collation center just like the one in Nigeria.

Speaking to Hello FM’s king Edward, he explained that a lot of lessons can be learnt from the just ended Nigeria’s election.

According to him, his party, the NPP has made a lot of proposals to the EC “and coincidentally they fall in line with what we saw the Nigerian’s electoral commission do”.

“If Nigeria which is a federal state have done it with an impeccable ease, why can’t we do it as a nation with only 10 regions?” he asked.

“The New Patriotic Party has made a number of key recommendations on the electoral reforms to the electoral commission and we hope that those recommendations would be adhered to. One most important reform we are asking the electoral commission to factor in is the use of electoral agents, for example, what the Nigeria’s electoral commission was using, Professors from the various universities were used and they are incorruptible…we are hoping to see some changes come 2016,” he added.
