Midwife’s Ghc3k pension after 41yrs angers Unions

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), has come under severe backlash after a retired midwife received a paltry amount after four decades of service.

Martha Buckman received only 3, 751 Ghana Cedis from SSNIT after working for 41 years.

The twelve labour unions fighting government over the management of their tier-two pension funds have expressed anger over the latest development.

Coordinator for the labour unions, Reynolds Tenkorang in an interview with Starr News accused SSNIT of giving pensioners a raw deal and violating the Pensions Act.

According to him, SSNIT must pay Buckman what she deserves or face their wrath.

“Members who retired from 2010 till date have been shortchanged…this woman has worked for 41 years and… was given only 3, 751 when she should be expecting 25,000 Cedis.

“Many are being cheated, but they are unaware…we will advise ourselves, we cannot wait and watch our members suffer unjustly when they have toiled and contributed to SSNIT,” Tenkorang said.
