Mr Opoku Boakye Yiadom, the Municipal Chief Executive of Berekum, has appealed to chiefs and people of Berekum and Kato to resolve their differences and unite.
He said this would allow for peace and development in the area.
Mr Yiadom told journalists at Berekum that the protracted chieftaincy between the two towns was holding back progress and transformation of the municipality.
The MCE said the world was advancing at a fast pace and it behooved on Ghanaians, especially the people of Berekum and Kato to step up efforts at social and economic emancipation instead of unfruitful litigation.
“For us in this part of the world, our efforts should be geared towards improving poor sanitation, poverty, illiteracy, ignorance and under development. It is therefore incumbent upon us to do away with disputes and unnecessary politicking,” he said.
Mr Yiadom said disputes and wrangling derailed focus, retarded community development and had rippling effects on the larger national development agenda.
“Remember, we are one people of one nation with a common destiny, let us all be guided by the adage that in unity we stand but divided we fall,” he said.
