Ms Freda Akosua Prempeh, Member of Parliament for Tano North Constituency in the Brong- Ahafo Region, has appealed to individuals and organization to come to the aid of the constituency to improve water and sanitation.

She expressed the need for more and improved supply of potable water and better sanitation facilities to improve the overall health and sanitation in the area.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra, on water and sanitation issues in the Tano North Constituency, Ms Prempeh described the water situation as not the best.

She said the main sources of water supply are boreholes, streams and rivers, adding that, there was the need to check on the quality and distribution.

“Also, it is very necessary to check on the salt content of water from boreholes to prevent any negative impact on the health of the people

“You see children bathing in water bodies, and this is another big challenge,” Ms Prempeh, who was also a former Assembly member for the Lakoo Electoral Area in Accra, said.

She said with good leadership at the local level, sanitation can significantly be improved, adding that, she recently organized to evacuate a six-year old refuse heap at Duayaw Nkwanta.

Ms Prempeh said there are plans to carry out similar exercises in Yamfo and Tano, and that, she would collaborate with the constituents to intensify education on hygiene and sanitation.

She appealed to individuals and organizations to come to the aid of the community to help build simpler but hygienic toilet facilities for the people.
