Teachers besiege Volta Edu office over RLG laptops

Dozens of basic school teachers in the Volta region last Friday picketed at the offices of the Ghana Education Service to demand RLG laptop computers which are due them.

The teachers who besieged the GES offices from various parts of the region, upon hearing of the distribution of the laptops, told Starr News the devices formed part of a package for an ICT training workshop, which they attended December 2013.

A notice posted at the premises by officials of the directorate, announcing the suspension of the distribution, however infuriated the teachers, who lamented the long delay in the release of the devices has adversely affected the teaching of the ICT subject in their schools.

Similarly, the aggrieved teachers are also demanding the payment of their training allowances of Ghc 120.00 each from RLG Communications Ltd, organizers of the Government funded workshop in 2013.

According to them, the allowances and the laptop computers were paid for by government as part of the ICT training workshop, but 15 months down the line, they are yet to benefit from the package.
