Mushroom has untapped market for Ghana – Adviser

Mr Devine Buo, the National Agri-Business Cluster Adviser of the International Fertilizer Development Centre (IFDC), has said that mushroom production has a lot of potential for Ghana.

He said there was an untapped market for mushroom outside the country and called on the government to assist the mushroom farmers with infrastructure and technological training to produce more to meet the demand.

Mr Buo made the call at the close of a five-day workshop for mushroom growers and exporters, sponsored by the IFDC in Accra.

He said if farmers are assisted and supported they would be able to produce 40 tons of dried mushrooms for export, thus helping to create job opportunities and reduce poverty in the country.

Mr Ernest Agbenohevi and Ms Wilhelmina Ashun from Global Strategic Resources who were the facilitators of the workshop, took participants through production, business planning, entrepreneurship and record keeping.

It was also used to build partnership between value-chain actors in mushroom production and stakeholders.
