We could charge Betty Mould, et al – Dep. AG

Deputy Attorney General Dr Dominic Ayineh says the Ministry of Justice is considering charging former Attorney General Betty Mould-Iddrisu and her former Deputy Ebo Barton-Odro but no definite official decision has yet been taken on that consideration.

“To be honest with you we haven’t made that decision yet officially. It is not something that we have not considered,” Dr Ayineh told Samson Lardy Anyenini on Joy FM’s news analysis programme newsfile Saturday.

“I’m being very cautious with what I’m saying because no official position has been taken, definitely as to whether we’ll be charging them,” he added.

Samson Lardy Anyenini: But you have considered it? Dr Ayineh: Yes we have.

Mrs Mould-Iddrisu and Mr Barton-Odro were at the helm of affairs when Mr Woyome was paid Ghc51.2 million as judgment debt for an illegally terminated contract he had with the Government.

Mrs Mould-Iddrisu ordered the payment of the money in full, despite a directive by the Court for the money to be paid in three installments, while Mr Barton-Odro argued that the state did not put up a defence at the time because the state had a bad case.

An Accra High Court on Thursday acquitted and discharged Mr Woyome of charges concerning causing financial loss to the state and defrauding by false pretences.

Trial judge John Ajet-Nassam said the State could not convince him that the financier of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) caused financial loss to the state and also defrauded the state.

He wondered why the state prosecutors failed to invite Mrs Mould-Iddrisu, Mr Barton-Odro and others state players whom he was of the considered opinion, could have strengthened the state’s case.
