Minister Calls For Formation Of Cooperatives

Accra,(Greater Accra Region) 13 Oct. Mr. E.T. Mensah, Minister of Youth and Sports and MP for Ningo/Prampram, has charged his constituents to form cooperative ventures to improve upon their economic well -being. He was addressing a rally to mark the first anniversary of the Cooperative Multi-Purpose Society Limited at Abia in the Greater Accra Region. Mr Mensah said if the various communities in the constituency embarked on such cooperative ventures ”it will create jobs and generate income for the youth as well as enhance the development of their areas”. He praised the leadership of the Society for their diligence and perseverance since its beginning in 1982, and for raising its interests in cooperatives to include fishermen, fish mongers, farmers and kenkey producers. Mr Samuel Awuley, the president of the society, said the group intends to build a permanent headquarters to consist of offices, a conference hall and a wholesale. According to its annual financial report for the period ending March 30, the Society made a net surplus of about four million cedis.
