Cocobod security man arrested for stealing cocoa beans

A security officer of the Ghana Cocobod and two accomplices are helping the Tema Police to unravel the theft of 206 bags of cocoa belonging to the company worth GH¢ 721,000.

Frederick Baako, 30, the security man, Moses Amoah, 35, driver and John Essia, 47, driver’s mate, are in police custody.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Juliana Obeng, Tema Regional Police Public Relations Officer, told journalists on Monday that in the early hours of March 8, a police patrol team intercepted a KIA truck with registration number GC 7088 11 loaded with cocoa beans at the Tema Heavy Industrial area.

The Team became suspicious when Baako and his accomplices produced a weigh bill which had no date, and indicating that the produce was taken from Oda and destined for Takoradi.

According to her, officials of the Cocobod have identified the produce as the property of the company.
