A three-member Judicial Committee of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council has recommended the distoolment Nana Kena Appiah II, Muorsohene.
He was charged for misappropriation of public funds and acting contrarily to the customs and usage of Akim Abuakwa Traditional Area.
Nana Appiah was accused of failing to account for one million cedis, five bags of salt and a carton of schnapps donated to the community by a timber contractor in 1993 and failing to perform annual festivals in the town.
He was charged for consecrating a black stool for his late uncle who was distooled as chief, creating additional mausoleum to the original one where his close family members were buried and refusing to allow a packing lot for a grader working on streets in the town.
The Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, appointed the committee chaired by the Chief of Osiem, Barima Kwaku Opoku the III in September last year, to look into the charges, following a suit filed by the Kingmakers of Muorso against Nana Appiah.
The two other members of the committee, were Barimah Owusu Konadu, Chief of Boadua and Barimah Adjeben Nti, Bunsohene.
In a statement of claim, the complainants stated that the defendant, Nana Appiah misappropriated the donation by one Mr Kofi Amoako, a businessman who was awarded a timber concession in Muorso stool land.
According to the statement, the Muorsohene was confronted by the people and he denied having received the money.
The members of the Unit Committee in the town consulted the authorities of the Stool Lands and were able to secure a document, which was signed by the chief after collecting the money.
In his statement of defence, Nana Appiah, however, denied all the charges.
In it’s ruling, the committee said the defendant had been found guilty on two out of the six charges preferred against him.
He has lost grip of power to conduct the affairs of the town and therefore could not continue to be regarded as chief of Muorso.
The committee, therefore, asked the Kingmakers of Muorso to perform the necessary customary rites for the destoolment of Nana Appiah and ensure the immediate enstoolment of a new chief to see to the development of the town.
