The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) today welcomed the directive by President Jerry John Rawlings for the re-introduction of the Meet-the-Press Series, involving Ministers of State. A statement issued in Accra today, said the decision will ”improve the information flow between government and the people, desirable in any democracy that wishes to survive and to know the hopes and aspirations of the electorate.” It said ”as journalists, we hail the President’s decision for the immense benefits that it will surely bring to government-press relations”. ”The GJA has high expectation for the programme and expressed the hope that its organisers will draw lessons from the past, so that the failures that plagued the earlier ones will not rpt not re- emerge.” This is ”to enable us (to) have a continual punctual and informative Meet-the Press series that enhances free information flow in the country’s democracy”. The association congratulates the President for taking this bold initiative which it acknowledged to be part of the government’s efforts to explain its policies to the people.
