An Accra Fast Track High Court has joined the Attorney General together with the National Biosafety Authority to a law suit filed by Food Sovereignty Ghana.
Initially, the suit was against the National Biosafety Committee and the Ministry of Food And Agriculture.
The Fast Track High Court, presided over by Mr Anthony K. Yeboah urged Food Sovereignty Ghana (FSG) to amend the writs of summon and serve the defendant within seven days.
Earlier, the court granted an Interlocutory injunction restraining the Ministry from commercializing the sale of Genetically Modified (GM) foods in the country.
The court said the Agriculture Ministry cannot approve the sale of GMOs until it rules on a case brought before it by FSG.
Mr Gorge Tetteh Wayoe, counsel for FSG said the failure by the Ministry has made the National Biosafety Committee to go against the averments.
He said this trend of dealing with biotechnology and biosafety by the defendants was a very dangerous trend to food security and sovereignty of the country.
He prayed the court that the defendants must obey the Biosafety Act.
Mr Tetteh prayed the court to order the defendant to oblige to oversee the activities of the Committee to comply with the enabling law, regarding food and agriculture in Ghana.
