NPP is strongly against ethnic politics – Nitiwul

Deputy Minority Leader Dominic Nitiwul has stated that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is “strongly” against ethnocentrism and will not condone politics of such nature.

In his view, tribal politics has the tendency to destabilise the peace of the country and must not be tolerated regardless of who is involved.

The Bimbilla MP made the comments in an interview with Starr News’ Emmanuel Gbikpo when he joined the “One Ghana” demonstration Wednesday.

“Our party is against ethnic politics and we are here to make that point strongly to the Ghanaian people and to make our party’s position clear on the matter. “I have spoken to Osafo-Maafo and he says he didn’t make those tribal comments but I think people like the President who went to the North and made similar comments and all other people who have made such comments in the past must be condemned,” he stated.

Wednesday’s demonstration was meant to condemn former finance minister, Yaw Osafo-Maafo for his alleged ethnocentric comments made over a month ago, to the effect that even though close to 90 per cent of Ghana’s resources are concentrated in Akan-dominated parts of the country, it is non-Akans who come from regions which are poor in resources that are running the country.

The former finance Minister has admitted speaking at the forum where he is alleged to have made the comments but denied ever making such ethnocentric comments as captured on a secretly recorded audiotape.

According to the Engineer, his voice was doctored for mischievous propaganda purposes.
