Mechanic remanded for snatching taxi

A 26-year-old mechanic who allegedly attacked and snatched a taxi cab at Prakrom Junction, has been remanded in prison custody by a circuit court at Akim Swedru in the Eastern Region.

Kwame Jalim, denied any knowledge of conspiracy, robbery, committing crime and causing unlawful damage. He will reappear on March 16.

His accomplices, Kofi Fanti and one Twum are on the run.

Police Inspector Fabiah Sellah told the court presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Brew that one Mr Isaac Boako, driver of the taxi with registration number AS 4751 12, on December 12, 2014 at about 22:00 hours was hired by the accused person and the two accomplices to convey them from Akim Oda to Achiase;

He said when they reached Prakrom Junction Jalim, Koo Fanti and Twum violently assaulted Boako and in the process threw him out of the car and sped off, with Jalim at the wheels.

The Inspector said Boako later reported his ordeal to the police, adding that, upon intensive investigation, the police on December 22, last year spotted a dismantled taxi cab at a fitting shop at Brofreyedru.

He said investigation revealed that it was Jalim who sent the car to the fitting shop and was subsequently arrested.
