Speaker to Join 5th Edition of National Sanitation Day

Mr Edward Doe Adjaho, the Speaker of Parliament, on Wednesday said he would join the 5th edition of the National Sanitation Day programme to be hosted by the Volta Region on March 7.

He said sanitation was a very important issue that needed to be highlighted and it was the responsibility of citizens to clean their surroundings.

Mr Adjaho said this when Mr Nii Lante Vanderpuye, the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, paid a courtesy call on him to inform him of the impending programme.

While lauding the National Sanitation Day initiative, the Speaker said it was also crucial for people to be continuously educated on the need to maintain proper sanitation, saying “People should not always come from Accra to initiate a clean-up exercise.”

He said it was important that all citizens prioritize sanitation issues and always remember to keep the environment clean, adding “the major responsibility of cleanliness lies with the citizens.

Mr Nii Lante Vanderpuye thanked the Speaker for his support for the programme.
