Four suspected armed robbers granted bail

A circuit court at Fiapre near Sunyani, has granted bail to four suspected armed robbers, who allegedly shot and killed a motor bike rider at Kintampo last year.

The bail became necessary after the prosecutor in the case had told the court presided over by Mr. Yaw Owoahene Acheampong, that the complainant in the case had failed to assist the Police in their investigations, and efforts to contact the complainant had also proved futile.

The accused persons, Kwame Donkor, 45, a vulganizer, Abdela Ahmed, alias Jaga, driver, 46, Kwasi Aboagye 27, food vendor and Kwadwo Mohammed alias Ayoya, charged with robbery, were each granted bail in the sum of GH¢ 900, with two sureties to re-appear on February 25.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Richard Agyapong Boateng, prosecuting, told the Court that the complainant and accused persons were all residents of Kintampo.

He said on December 12, a group of unidentified armed robbers at about 1900 hours, attacked Seidu Salifu, now deceased, on a motor bike with a pillion rider belonging to one Ms Dora at Asantekwaa village, near Kintampo.

DSP Boateng stated that the robbers ordered Salifu and Dora to lie down and surrender the entire items on them, and robbed them of a Samsung mobile phone valued at GH¢ 80 and a cash amount of GH¢ 37.00.

He said one of the armed robbers then fired a shot to kill Salifu, after which they escaped.

The complainant reported the matter to the Police who rushed to the scene only to find Salifu dead in a pool of blood.

DSP Boateng stated that Police later apprehended the accused persons from their hide-outs upon a tip off.

The Police retrieved an SB short gun and 16 live cartridges after conducting a search on them.
