‘Make education infrastructure disability friendly’

Mr. Yaw Barima Antwi, the Executive Director of the Physically Challenge Action Foundation, has appealed to the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to work towards making educational infrastructure disability friendly.

This will help prevent discrimination and make it easy and convenient for children with physical challenges to go to school unaided.

Speaking to the GNA at Offinso, Mr. Antwi said it was time all school-going children enjoyed the same facilities.

He expressed regret that 10 years after the passage of the Disability Act, most educational institutions and other public facilities still did not have access routes for people with physical challenges.

Mr Antwi, a winner of MTN Heroes of Change Competition, commended MTN Ghana for supporting individuals and organizations that had decided to help the needy.

Mr Antwi, who operates a physically challenge centre at Offinso, said through the financial prize from the MTN, some of the challenges facing his centre had been solved.

He said challenged that faced the Centre included lack of school bus and a junior high school block for the school-going children who had to walk several miles to attend school at different locations in Offinso.

Madam Charity Darko, MTN Corporate Services Advisor-Northern Business Sector, commended Antwi for using the money given to him as one of the winners of MTN heroes of Change competition to improve the conditions at the centre.
