Gov’t lacks “critical understanding” of economy – Alan K

Former flagbearer aspirant of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alan Kyerematen has accused the Mahama-led administration of lacking the “strategic understanding” of the challenges confronting the Ghanaian economy.

According to him, the government only appears to be reacting to pressing economic challenges instead of developing an effective strategy for long-term economic growth.

Addressing the Media in Accra Tuesday at the launch of a book by former deputy finance minister, Prof George Gyan Baffour, the former Trades minister said the government must be strategic in its economic planning.

“Obviously if you look at the specific areas of the management of the economy, you would appreciate that there has been lack of strategic understanding of the critical issues confronting the economy.

“And to that extent, there is some lessons to be learnt from how we look at the economy from a strategic position rather than a reactive position,” he stated.
