School and Health structures inaugurated

School and health infrastructure built at a total cost of about GH¢4.7 million under the “Reconstruction of the Kumasi-Sunyani Road Project,” ha ve been inaugurated at a ceremony.

They include a two-storey block of 12 classrooms, and a kindergarten with four classrooms, for the Kwadaso SDA Cluster of Schools, a block each of 12 classrooms, at Tanoso and Abuakwa.

The rest are a fence wall and gate at the Yaa Asantewaa Girls Senior High School (SHS), another fence wall at the Prempeh College, and a two-storey building for the Family Planning Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

These were built to replace structures that had to give way for the road re-construction, and to compensate the communities for the loss of their lands.

Mr. Inusah Fuseini, Roads and Highways Minister, performing the inauguration, said it was the policy of government to provide such social facilities anywhere road projects would be undertaken.

This way, the people would not only enjoy the benefit of good roads, but have access to additional amenities.

He urged the beneficiary communities to show ownership of the projects, by making sure that they were properly maintained and kept in healthy states.

Mr. Samuel Sarpong, Ashanti Regional Minister, said the successful completion of the structures were a welcomed relief to the people.

He said, the classroom structures fixed with ancillary facilities, including air-conditioners and ceiling fans, as well as water tanks, present the right environment for effective teaching and learning.

Mr Kwaku Owusu Yeboah, Regional Manager of the SDA Education Unit, said the Kwadaso classroom projects would help end the school’s current shift system.
