ACCRA NEOPLAN LORRY STATION REHABILITATED

The rehabilitated Neoplan Station at Odawna in Accra has been commissioned at an estimated cost of ?350 million. It was financed by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly. Commissioning it, the Chief Executive of the AMA, Mr.. Nat Nunoo Amarterfio, said more lorry parks are to constructed in the city to ease traffic congestion. He announced that a four-storey car park at the GNTC and Rawlings park will be completed at the end of this year or early next year. He said the AMA is currently constructing sheds and offices for the GPRTU at the new Tema Station at an estimated cost of ?300 million. It is also negotiation with the University of Ghana to acquire land near Legon to build a lorry station to accommodate vehicles from the Akwapim ridge and the southern part of the city. The National Chairman of the GPRTU, Mr.. E.K. Gbedemah said the Neoplan station was renovated to ease congestion of traffic and also serve as a resting place for travellers. He called on the Town and Country Planning Department to reserve land for lorry parks at every suburb in the Metropolis and other cities in the country. End
