Court adjourns Hajia Adamu’s case

An Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Yaw Atta Sampong, has adjourned the case involving Hajia Ayishetu Adamu, a businesswoman, charged for fraudulent breach of trust.

The accused person, who pleaded not guilty, would re-appear in court on February 18.

Mr Seidu Nasigri, counsel for the accused person, told the court that the amount being quoted in the fact sheet should rather be GH¢ 49,684 and not GH¢ 300,000.

He said looking at the number of complainants, the amount should be less.

He took the opportunity to repeat a bail application for his client, but the application was refused.

The Judge said he was surprised that complaints were not taken from the complainants but the prosecution was able to arrive at that figure.

Presenting the facts to the court earlier, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Moses Atibilla said the complainants in the case are traders and artisans residing at Amasaman and its environs.

He said sometime in June 2013, the accused person arrived at Amasaman from Kumasi to establish a fun club called “Gye Nyame Fun Club.”

ACP Atibilla said, the accused person collected monies from the complainants on weekly basis, with the understanding that it would be given out as loans to members at specific periods.

“She told them that they would be given saloon cars, iron sheets, bags of cement and living room items later,” he added.

The prosecution said the accused person succeeded in collecting various sums of money from the complainants amounting to GH¢ 300,000.

ACP Atibilla said after collecting the monies, she absconded, indicating that, the accused person refused to pick several calls from the complainants.

He said the accused person’s whereabouts remained unknown, but upon intelligence reports, she was arrested from her hide-out in Kumasi.

Meanwhile, other members of the club continue to lodge similar complaints daily.
