Two communities in Techiman District get hand-dug-wells

INSAN Services, a non-governmental organization (ngo) based in Accra, has provided the Gyarko and Aworano communities in the Techiman District with hand-dug wells, each fitted with a pump, at a total cost of 20 million cedis.

Commissioning the project at separate ceremonies, Mr Ibrahim Ahmed Abass, Assembly Member for Konimase said it was expedient that the two communities established water and sanitation committees to ensure the maintenance of the wells.

Mr Abass noted that the wells would help improve the living conditions of the people and urged them to handle the pumps with care.

He asked the chiefs and unit committee members to ensure that people did not encroach upon plots of land earmarked for the construction of schools, markets and sanitation facilities.

The Assembly Member deplored the waywardness of some school children who indulged in gambling and smoking of Indian hemp and asked parents to help educate their children against such practices.

Mallam Yakubu Tahiru, Bimoba/Grumah chief at Gyarko, commended INSAN Services for its gesture, noting that its continued assistance had helped to bring potable water to rural communities.
