The management of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has stated in no uncertain terms that no ‘top Ghana Water Engineer’ is under probe for stealing materials meant for water projects in parts of the Central Region.
The management of GWCL was reacting to a newspaper publication by the Herald Newspaper in the Wednesday 14th January 2015 edition, which was widely discussed on Adom Fm and Montie Fm to the effect that Mr. Francis Lamptey, who is currently the distribution manager of the Accra West Region and who was named in the story, has not been charged by the Company or any institution for the offence mentioned in the story by the Herald newspaper.
According to the management of GWCL, in line with normal practice, such an act of malfeasance on the part of Mr. Francis Lamptey would have been reported to his immediate boss and the head office.
“Our records show that management of the GWCL had not received any official report on the loss of such materials in the Central Region.”
A statement issued and signed by the Chief Manager (PR) and copied to the Acting Managing Director of stated that Mr. Ashia, the boss of Mr. Lamptey, at a time he was on transfer in Cape Coast, denied the loss of the project materials when contacted for his version of the story as carried by the Heritage newspaper.
For that reason, it is extremely strange that such an allegation could be made against the regional distribution manager when such offence has neither been committed nor come to the attention of management.
Management of the GWCL urged all to disregard the story as it “is full of untruths and outright lies.”
“It is most unfair for any person or any group of persons to make such wild accusations to tarnish the hard won reputation of both the officer and the Ghana Water Company Limited in a newspaper such as the Herald.”
