People of Otwebediadua, a farming community in the Suhum Municipality, have appealed to the government for water especially during the dry season when all their boreholes get dried up.
According to some residents who spoke to GNA in an interview, the community had five boreholes but all had dried up because of the harmattan and are left without any source of water.
Mr Samuel Nyamekye, a spokesperson for the community, told the GNA that the community now depended on a stream in a nearby community called Kofi Dei, which is about a mile away.
He said none of the five boreholes was producing water and that had always been the case.
Mr Nyamekye said the situation was so bad that children were going to school late because they had to walk for two miles to fetch water.
Madam Christiana Opata, a resident in the community, said she and her three children wake up at 0400 hours to fetch water and by the time they got back, her children were unable to go to school because they were either tired or too late to go.
She said some experts on boreholes said the water dried up during the harmattan because of the sizes of the boreholes and therefore appealed to the government for bigger boreholes that could withstand the harmattan.
