Community makes plea for public toilet

The people of Homabenase, a farming community in the Bosomtwe District, have appealed to the assembly to provide them with a public toilet.

This, they said, has become necessary to end the worsening environmental sanitation situation in the community.

Mr Joseph Darko-Dei, Unit Committee Chairman, told Ghana News Agency that a number of the people are forced to defecate in the open.

“They ease themselves on the fields and anywhere they can find some privacy,” he said.

He said this is posing a major health danger, since the area is engulfed in foul smell.

He said through self-help the community is constructing a public lavatory but progress of work had stalled due to lack of funds.

He said due to the high level of poverty among the population, it has become increasingly difficult to raise money to buy the needed construction materials, hence the need by the assembly to intervene.

Mr Emmanuel Nkrumah, a resident, said the situation is “very disturbing” and needed to be fixed without delay.
